The Use of Blended Learning in the Classroom: Pros and Cons

Blended learning is often named hybrid learning techniques, where both online and traditional methods are used for learning. This type of learning in practice means having online and traditional classes on alternate days. In blended learning, the teacher takes a traditional class, delivers a lecture, and then commences an online class to teach it through the technological components. Furthermore, it is up to the teacher’s choice if he wants to conduct the online class or the physical class. The Use of Blended Learning in the Classroom: Pros and Cons

E-learning has given students a lot of opportunities regarding the learning criteria. There are online class help and online exam services where students seek help from these services. Students who are so busy with their home tasks or anywhere can ask for online class help to take my online class for me and then explain it later. These high-served benefits make students more self-dependent on their educational decisions

Blended learning is also called mixed-mode learning, where numerous learning experiences are being served to the students. In some schools and colleges, blended learning is becoming dominant nowadays, which students and educators enjoy differently. In the past few years, the use of blended learning has been increased in educational institutions and still prevailing in the world to benefit students. This is also a fact that a lot of educational institutes are reluctant to adopt blended learning due to technological complexities, but it is important to give them an awareness of the ease and convenience of this method of learning. 


Although implementing blended learning is not an easy task, it is the educational system’s responsibility to make it worthwhile by implementing it in a better way. Certain strategies are needed to implement for the correct use of blended learning; otherwise, the objective of it might be failed. 

In the times of coronavirus, when every activity was shut down so that physical exposure could be restricted, blended learning was introduced. It was highly significant for the commencement of class and the continuation of my studies. Online education was already in practice but to some extent, and gradually it takes educational systems to completely shift to online systems. Blended learning accelerated the educational process in the crucial times of the pandemic. The crises enable educational systems to open digital gates to gain knowledge

In blended learning, students have the chance to revise the lecture as many times as they want to. Students can note their queries in online classes and then can ask their teacher about them in traditional classes. Furthermore, blended learning gives different learning methods like visuals, audio, videos and many more. 


Following are some of the benefits of blended learning for the students;

  1. Increase in student’s interest

When students are stuck to the traditional method of learning, they get bored and stressed by seeking education from a single method. When the blended system is introduced to educational institutes, students seem more excited to learn about things. Students seem more focused on blended learning as they come across to learn new learning tactics.

  1. Keep students focused on studies

In traditional learning, students get diverted by different concepts and ideas. It sometimes happens that students are physically present in the class but mentally absent. This causes the loss of lectures from them. In blended learning, students are engaged to a higher level in their studies. They are supposed to do different group assignments and projects that help them interact with each other. They become highly focused on their studies with the help of blended learning.

  1. Makes student autonomous

In traditional learning, students are bound to learn from given textbooks and are forced to write the rigid and planned lectures delivered by their teacher. In blended learning, students are given a choice to opt for their subjects and study according to their interests. They can go for audio learning or video learning, or they might take physical lectures and can follow any method of learning. Blended learning helps the student explore his interests and personality when choosing learning methods. 

  1. Allow instant questioning and feedback

In traditional learning, students are not given a chance to meet their instructor right after the lecture ends. Then students have to wait for the whole week to ask the questions and clear their queries. In blended learning, students can instantly and directly contact their instructors right after the delivery of the lecture.


  • There is limited access for most students to technology. Some underprivileged students still do not have many resources to take online classes. They also feel difficulty when they are asked to submit an assignment or a project on time. Their slow submission of assignments due to lack of infrastructure results in low academic grades. 
  • Although in blended learning physical interactions happen, occasionally seeing your teacher might result in a lack of supervision and students can eventually be diverted somewhere else.
  • When students are asked to connect online for classes. They start using social media apps that divert their minds and nobody is there to keep eyes on them
  • There are so many chances of cyberbullying or leaking of personal data of students and teachers that put a negative impact on the educational system
  • There is high time for the teachers because they face an extra workload when it comes to blended learning. They are forced to deliver lectures online and then repeat them in physical classes as demanded by the students. Furthermore, they have to check assignments on both online and physical levels.
  • In online assignments and projects, there is a possible chance of increased plagiarism. Which loses the credibility of any educational institution.

Blended learning has both merits and demerits, the point is to use it smartly when it is needed. It happens a lot of time that it is not used efficiently so it loses its objective and criteria. Educational institutes must find ways to effectively implement blended learning.
